Each teacher under contract is automatically enrolled in the compulsory life insurance.  The premiums for this plan are paid in full by the employer.  It is paid from the EI rebate and is outlined in the MOA.

A NEW PROBATIONARY/PERMANENT OR FULL YEAR FIXED TERM TEACHER IS AUTOMATICALLY ENROLLED IN SINGLE COVERAGE:

BASIC LIFE

  • $100,000. LIFE INSURANCE
  • $100,000. ACCIDENTAL DEATH AND DISMEMBERMENT

If a teacher signs out of the Life Insurance they must show proof of insurability in order to get back into the plan.  There is no requirement of proof of insurability to change to a family plan within 31 days of joining the plan or a major family change.
